Mechanical Lock Standing Seam by MWI Metal Roofing & Siding is designed to provide the most long lasting and maintenance free metal roofing for your home or commercial building. Available in G90 Galvanized Steel, Galvalume, Aluminum, Copper and Zinc. Choose your material and colour, our standing seam installation experts will roll form your metal roof to the exact specifications. Because we manufacture your roof right on site, there is minimal risk of material damage, costly errors, and heavy delivery surcharges.
What is Standing Seam?
Standing seam is a type or profile of metal roofing that is roll formed out of continuous coils of sheet metal. Standing seam roofs are easy to spot because of their distinct raised vertical seams. Each panel should run continuously from the eave at the base of the roof up to the ridge. Properly installed panels should not overlap horizontally as this would compromise watertightness. Larger roofs require the panels to be roll formed on site because they are too long to fit onto a transport trailer. The seams on a standing seam roof are engaged in one of two ways; “Snap Lock” or “Mechanical Lock”.
Why is it Called Mechanical Lock?
Mechanical Lock refers to the method of engagement of one vertical panel to the adjacent vertical panel. Also known as mechanically seamed, this standing seam is designed so that the overlapping seams of each parallel panel are permanently folded over (using a small roll forming tool) and locked into place. Mechanical lock panels are watertight and perform exceptionally well even on roofs with a very low slope.
